Homelessness: Homelessness services - housing outcomes
Changes in housing situations for SHS clients are measured by comparing housing situations at the start and end of support within the financial year.
Data are sourced from the AIHW Specialist Homelessness Services Collection (SHSC) data cubes.
The SHSC collects data on people experiencing or at risk of homelessness who seek assistance from Specialist Homelessness Services (SHS), including client characteristics, service use and housing outcomes. The collection commenced in 2011–12, replacing the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) Client Collection.
Data for 2024–25 have been perturbed to minimise the risk of identifying individuals. As a result, component values may not sum to totals and may differ slightly from other published SHSC data.
Results are limited to clients whose support ended during the financial year (that is, with closed support periods and no ongoing support at 30 June).
Many clients receive support over extended periods or across multiple support periods and may experience several changes in housing during the year. These interim changes are not captured. Instead, housing situation at the start of each client’s first support period in the financial year is compared with the end of their last support period in the same year.
See the AIHW Specialist homelessness services data cubes for more information. Data for this visualisation are drawn from the SHSC housing situation data cubes (2011–12 to 2021–22) and (2022–23 to 2024–25).
