National accounts - loan outstandings to households for housing

Outstanding housing loans indicate the size of housing finance and how household debt is changing over time.

Data are sourced from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) publication Australian National Accounts: Finance and Wealth.

Data relate to the value of housing loans outstanding to households, by lending institution, and are available quarterly from June 1988.

Australian National Accounts statistics are compiled using a range of data sources and include financial accounts, capital accounts and household balance sheets. These are produced in line with international standards in the System of National Accounts.
